Real Life Lessons | Eyebrow Waxing

The year was 2003. I was 13, and went through a MAJOR change …

My eyebrow finally got seperated.

You know how you would draw birds as a kid? That’s what my eyebrow used to look like. At the oh so wonderful age of 13, not only was I sporting a mangy unibrow, I was also a good 20 pounds overweight. Rest assured that the kids in my grade took notice of my bulky bod & brow, and enjoyed pointing them out to me.

Luckily, I was always able to find solace in McDonald’s french fries. ❤

After months of begging (and threatening to take a razor to the eyebrow myself), my mom finally agreed to let me get it waxed. The experience was painful, but worth it – BECAUSE … I finally had EYEBROWS … TWO OF THEM!

Fast forward to present day, I have upwards of 200 eyebrow waxes under my belt. Unfortunately, 90% of these waxes were done in the back of a nail salon … which will forever go down as one of my biggest beauty regrets of all time. I’ve had my eyebrows made too thin, shortened, and completely re-shaped in nail salons. Making each time I went in for a wax extremely dreadful.

Last year, I finally made the decision to get my eyebrows waxed by someone who specializes in eyebrow shaping, at an eyebrow studio.

What took me so long?

The price.

For years, I couldn’t bring myself to paying almost $20, 2-3x a month for an eyebrow wax. BUT take it from me, when it comes to eyebrow waxing, you get what you pay for! Although I am paying double what I would at a nail salon, I am never disappointed. For the first time ever, I can actually trust someone to handle my eyebrows correctly!

Sometimes, we need to splurge on the things that will make us happier in the long run.

Funny how there was a time when I hated my unibrow, but I write this today wishing I had it back to start over. Some of the damage getting my eyebrows waxed at a nail salon did, was permanent.

*Moment of silence for the evolution of eyebrow makeup*

If you’re unhappy with your eyebrows, SEE SOMEONE WHO SPECIALIZES IN EYEBROW SHAPING! It was one of the best things I could have ever done.

Here are some tips for finding an eyebrow specialist:

  1. Google an eyebrow studio/specialist near you & read their reviews
  2. Reach out to social media and see who your friends recommend
  3. Know someone who has eyebrows you admire? Ask them for advice
